SoM NNL Replay: Slugfest to close the series, Hilldale 21, New York 10 (Game 4 of 4)

Probably helped by a steady drizzle, both pitchers were struggling big time in this game. In a major slugfest, Ray Brown gave up ten earned runs on 14 hits and still came away with an easy victory because the Daisies scored 21 runs (18 earned) on 24 hits against Bill Byrd - and all this within eight innings (the game was called when night fell and the rainfall got heavier).

The difference was that the Daisies hit around in two innings, and brought 8 men to the plate in two more, while Brown at least managed three consecutive 1-2-3 innings in the middle of the game, giving up runs in the early and the late game.

The Giants' cause wasn't helped when Charleston was hit by a pitch in his first at bat, and had to leave the game. He is expected to return in the next game, though. 

The Giants came away with just one win from the four game series against the Hilldales, and barely stayed on top of the ECL standings after eleven days of the season, sharing the lead with the Homestead Grays. The Daisies took three of four from the Giants to find themselves only one game behind the two leaders, keeping the league competition completely open after nearly a third of the short season.
