SoM NNL Replay: KC@STL game 2 - more solos

The Monarchs have slipped to 2-5 and need to start doing some winning, while the 4-4 Stars would like to move to a winning record again.

Once again, the Monarchs score first on a double from Jud wilson and an RBI single from Dobie Moore. And once again the Stars hit back immediately, nearly hitting around with two outs in the bottom of the first so Monarchs starter Matlock is lucky to escape with only two runs on the board for the home team.

In the third, Oms hits a solo homer to right to tie the game, but in the bottom of the inning the Stars again counter with a solo homer (also to right) from Leonard. In the fifth, it's Monarchs lead off hitter Benjamin who hits a solo over the same right field fence in hitter friendly Stars Park. The second HR given up by McDonald in a single game is about than you'd expect from this pitcher in a whole 33 game season... [and both HRs were scored off the same 6-9 result on the pitcher card...].

This time the Stars don't hit back immediately, and the Monarchs use the opportunity to take the lead on another solo homer to right, this time from #3 batter Wilson. With one out in the seventh, the Monarchs send Oscar Heavy Johnson in as pinch hitter, and he duely delivers - another solo homer, this time to center right. In the ninth, Salmon lays down a beautiful bunt to bring home Malarcher, but lead off hitter Benjamin has to leave the game after taking a breaking ball to his left ankle. He looks to be out for a few days...

The Monarchs manage to split the series and get to a 3-5 record entering the second weekend of games. The Stars are half a game below .500 at 4-5.
