SOM NNL Replay; STL 6, KCM 7



7/12/16 St. Louis Stars at Kansas City Monarchs

Fans were in for a nailbiter in the first of this two-game series, and the home crowd went home happy as they saw their Monarchs catch up to the second place Stars with a close walk-off victory.

 For most of the game. teams kept trading runs, and both starting pitchers left the game in favor of pinch hitters in the ninth. Relievers Salmon and Radcliffe took over, and the home team just got away with a walk-off win off Louis Santop's bat. An unearned run, for that matter, because Oms had only reached on an error from Stars center fielder Bullet Joe Rogan - the sharply hit liner should have been caught for the third out of the tenth, but just slipped out of Rogans glove because he had hesitated too long because playing the ball as a one-hopper or trying to catch it for the out.

Despite a lackluster performance at the plate, Cool Papa Bell gives fans a story to tell at home: in the fourth inning, Lundy hits a flyball deep to center field, but Cool Papa Bell sprints back to the center field fence, times a leap perfectly and just manages to reach over the fence and haul the ball in. In S-o-M rules terms: a D20 roll for a possible homerun on the ballpark chart came up with the first F result, and the subsequent die roll per rule 14.5 was so low only a 1 center fielder could make an out on it...

For the visitors, stand-in Creacy delivered another fine performance and will likely remain in the lineup for tomorrow's game. Bell and similarly lackluster "Homerun" Johnson, who both remained hitless, will probably get a day off.

SoM NNL Replay: Slugfest to close the series, Hilldale 21, New York 10 (Game 4 of 4)



Probably helped by a steady drizzle, both pitchers were struggling big time in this game. In a major slugfest, Ray Brown gave up ten earned runs on 14 hits and still came away with an easy victory because the Daisies scored 21 runs (18 earned) on 24 hits against Bill Byrd - and all this within eight innings (the game was called when night fell and the rainfall got heavier).

The difference was that the Daisies hit around in two innings, and brought 8 men to the plate in two more, while Brown at least managed three consecutive 1-2-3 innings in the middle of the game, giving up runs in the early and the late game.

The Giants' cause wasn't helped when Charleston was hit by a pitch in his first at bat, and had to leave the game. He is expected to return in the next game, though. 

The Giants came away with just one win from the four game series against the Hilldales, and barely stayed on top of the ECL standings after eleven days of the season, sharing the lead with the Homestead Grays. The Daisies took three of four from the Giants to find themselves only one game behind the two leaders, keeping the league competition completely open after nearly a third of the short season.

SoM NNL Replay: Hilldale 15, New York 9 (Game 3 of 4)


And here's the most recent game that took a few months to complete.

Despite a splendid performance by Oscar Charleston and a ninth inning rally against reliever Currie, the Giants fall to the Daisies in a near-rout. William Bell never got the game under control, bleeding runs in most innings, especially towards the end of the game.

The non-existing bullpen of the Giants is showing clearly here - maybe the Giants will try to find a reliever for such situations among the few remaining free agents?

SoM NNL Replay: Hilldale 2, New York 9 (Game 2 of 4)


I just noticed that I never got around to publishing the last NNL game I completed last year. So here goes.

Box Scores are taken, as always, from the iscore website. I can't recommend iscore enough, both the app for recording games getting player and team stats, and the online options to generate scoresheets, box scores like the ones shown below, and play-by-play accounts are fantastic.

Animation Anker GK-NF 16 Wasserwerk


Das Abfotografieren einer Bilderserie beim Abbau von Ankergebäuden ist gar nicht so aufwändig, und wenn man dann mal raushat wie man die Bilder mit fortlaufenden Nummern im Filenamen versorgt, geht das Erstellen einer Videoanimation eigentlich auch recht schnell.

Deshalb nach dem Erstlingsversuch hier gleich eine zweite Animation, diesmal das Wasserwerk aus GK-NF 16.


Ich wäre dankbar für Feedback:

Ist es bei hochformatigen Motiven wie dem Wasserwerk statthaft, die Fotos und damit auch die Animation im Hochformat zu machen oder sollte man trotzdem das internetfreundlichere Querformat nehmen?

Bei meinen ersten Animationen habe ich immer gleichzeitig mehrere Gebäudeteile hochwachsen lassen. Das ist kurzweiliger, bewegter und animiert zum mehrfach-Anschauen, aber ich finde es auch etwas unruhig und unfokussiert. Ich überlege beim nächsten Mal immer einen Gebäudeteil auf einmal zu bearbeiten, damit man mit den Augen darauf verweilen kann.
